Planning for Time Away From Home for Teens
Have you wanted to sleep over at a friend's house, go to an overnight summer camp, or join a friend on a trip with their family out of state? Spending time away from home is a part of being independent and growing up. If you have a medical condition that you have to treat, being away from home can mean being in a new place without your parents there to help.
Plan and Practice
It is never too early to plan and practice how to care for yourself or direct others to help you. Creating a plan and sharing it with your parents may help you AND your parents feel more comfortable. We have some Preparation Worksheets to help you get ready, but first it may help to think about what it means to be away from home.
