Visual Thinking Strategies for Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders: The Language of Pictures (Autism Outreach Project Course)

This event will be held at NWESD189 in Anacortes and teleconferenced to K20 sites statewide on March 25th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

This workshop will explain the language levels of visual supports that are typically used when working with individuals with ASD.

Seattle Children’s has partnered with the Department of Health, Children with Special Health Care Needs Program and the OSPI to offer this three-hour program, designed for school health professionals. It will be presented on the statewide technology K-20 network to be broadcast to several school districts.

Autism Screening and Consultation Forum

The First Day: Easter Seals and the University of Washington will provide free autism assessment for any parents who suspect their children may be on the autism spectrum. University of Washington clinicians will conduct a non-invasive assessment for infants under 30 months of age. Older children will receive the Social Communication Questionnaire (SCQ). Children of all ages, infants to teenagers, will be assessed.

The Second Day: Families with positive assessments from the first day will spend 30 minutes with University of Washington clinicians to discuss the next steps.

All services are free of charge and on a first come, first served basis.

Introduction to School Nursing

This course will focus on the application of the nursing process to problems common to the K-12 school-age population that are prevalent in the school environment. The nurse's role in the development and implementation of school health programs will be discussed. Content will include assessment of the school-age child, growth and development, screening, school administration, school law, and role implementation.
