Autism 206: Communication Skills

Autism 200 Series

 A series of 90-minute classes for parents and caregivers of children with autism who wish to better understand this disorder. The lectures cover a variety of topics such as communication skills, behavioral skills, social skills, medication and legal aspects.
 

Classes are taught by rotating faculty members from Seattle Children’s and the University of Washington, along with professionals from the community.Each class includes time for questions. Please consider joining us for as many sessions as you can!

Behavior is Communication

Make life easier by looking at your child's behavior as a means of communication. Learn the root causes and what you child may truly be trying to say with his/her actions and behavior. Visual Thinking Strategies for Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders: The Language of Pictures (Autism Outreach Project Course)

For brothers and sisters, ages 6 to 9, of children with special developmental and learning needs, including but not limited to: Autism, Down syndrome, ADD/ADHD, and developmental delays.

Autism Screening and Consultation Forum

The First Day: Easter Seals and the University of Washington will provide free autism assessment for any parents who suspect their children may be on the autism spectrum. University of Washington clinicians will conduct a non-invasive assessment for infants under 30 months of age. Older children will receive the Social Communication Questionnaire (SCQ). Children of all ages, infants to teenagers, will be assessed.

The Second Day: Families with positive assessments from the first day will spend 30 minutes with University of Washington clinicians to discuss the next steps.

All services are free of charge and on a first come, first served basis.
