  • Most summer camps fill up fast, so it may help to start looking early for summer camps that fit you and your child's needs. If you live in Washington State and are interested in summer camps and programs for children with special needs, our Summer Camp Directory for 2010 is now available. It lists over 60 camps and programs in Washington State for children with special health care needs or disabilities.

  • We are starting the new year with the launch of our new Story Network for parents of a child or teen with ongoing health condition or special needs.  We want it to be a place where you can can read stories that are both honest and hopeful, as well as a place to share your story with other parents.

    Please check it out and tell us what you think or tell your story.

  • We have mailed our last hard copy version of Linkages, the newsletter that provides news and events, grant opportunities, tools and resources, journal articles, and more for Washington State professionals caring for children with special needs.  If you are interested in still receiving Linkages, please take a minute to subscribe online to recieve the next Winter 2010 edition in your email inbox.  This edition will be sent in January and will focus on obesity.

  • The Center is looking for teens or young adults between the ages of 14-18 years old living with a chronic condition (that has lasted or is likely to last one year or longer) to participate in a focus group. We are gathering input on how teens use the web and what types of information they would look for in order to redesign and provide new content on the Teens tab of our website.

    Focus group will take about 1.5 hours and will be held at Seattle Children’s Sand Point Way location.  It will be during an evening between November 10th-12th. Written parental permission is required for participating teens. A participant incentive of a $25 check will be mailed to each participant following the session.

  • The Center has recently launched new content for all of our audiences.  Check out the new Planning for Time Away from Home for teens getting ready for events such as sleepovers or summer camp.  Or if you are interested in learning about family advisors, visit Becoming a Family Advisor for parents and caregivers looking for guidance and tips for participation or the Involving Families as Advisors for professionals looking to partner with families in the workplace.

  • The Center has been working with parents and professionals to launch a new oral health resource.  Visit the new Dental Care for Children with Special Needs to learn about children with special needs' unique oral health issues, read tips for a healthy mouth, and find and prepare for a dental visit.  Have ideas for other content you would like to see?  Contact us to let us know what type of information you are interested in.

  • Are you a teen or parent of teen living with a chronic health condition? The upcoming 4/16/09 Center's Taking Flight: A Journey from Pediatric to Adult Health Care will focus on teen health transition issues such as how to move from pediatric to adult health care and how to teens can discuss and parents can support increased health care independence.  There will be breakout sessions for teens and parents to discuss specific interests.  Visit the listing on our Event Calendar or view the flyer to learn more information.
