  • Today we launched a redesigned Teens Tab on the site based on feedback from teens. New information has been added to help teens advocate for themselves, look for their first job, take a more active role in managing their health care, and much more. Take a peek and let us know what you think!

  • We are looking to find out what types of information parents might find helpful.  As a parent of a child or teen with an ongoing health condition, is there information that you have looked for and have been unable to find?  What would you be interested in learning more information about?  Please help us better serve your needs by filling out our quick online survey.

  • The Starting Point Guide has been updated for 2010 and is now available.  You can download the PDF or find it in the "Related Links" section of our Getting Started After a New Diagnosis page.

  • If you live near Seattle, we still have a few spaces left for our Taking Flight: A Journey from Pediatric to Adult Health Care education workshop.  Last year's event was well-received by both teen and parent participants.  This year's event will be held on Thursday, May 6th from 6:30 - 8:30 pm.

If you have questions about how to move from pediatric to adult health care, please join us for a free evening about teen health transition.  For more information or to sign up, please see the event flyer.

  • Most summer camps fill up fast, so it may help to start looking early for summer camps that fit you and your child's needs. If you live in Washington State and are interested in summer camps and programs for children with special needs, our Summer Camp Directory for 2010 is now available. It lists over 60 camps and programs in Washington State for children with special health care needs or disabilities.

  • We are starting the new year with the launch of our new Story Network for parents of a child or teen with ongoing health condition or special needs.  We want it to be a place where you can can read stories that are both honest and hopeful, as well as a place to share your story with other parents.

Please check it out and tell us what you think or tell your story.

  • We have mailed our last hard copy version of Linkages, the newsletter that provides news and events, grant opportunities, tools and resources, journal articles, and more for Washington State professionals caring for children with special needs.  If you are interested in still receiving Linkages, please take a minute to subscribe online to receive the next Winter 2010 edition in your email inbox.  This edition will be sent in January and will focus on obesity.

  • The Center is looking for teens or young adults between the ages of 14-18 years old living with a chronic condition (that has lasted or is likely to last one year or longer) to participate in a focus group. We are gathering input on how teens use the web and what types of information they would look for in order to redesign and provide new content on the Teens tab of our website.

Focus group will take about 1.5 hours and will be held at Seattle Children’s Sand Point Way location.  It will be during an evening between November 10th-12th. Written parental permission is required for participating teens. A participant incentive of a $25 check will be mailed to each participant following the session.

If you or anyone you know is interested in participating, please email Jean Popalisky.
